Gearbox & mounts
The gearbox fitted to the TD & TF remained basically the same throughout the whole production run. Three basic alterations were made during the TD production to improve reliability of the 3rd/4th sliding rub assembly . At engine No 6532 an extra ball was added to the 3rd/4th sliding hub on the inside to engage in a detent in the mainshaft, and at engine No 16482 the 3rd/4th selector shaft was lengthened so that it protruded through the rear face of the remote control and a circlip was added to the front end. The remote control had a cover fitted to provide support to the rear of the extended shaft. This change was to prevent the shaft and selector mechanism being forced to far when engaging third gear. At engine No 16978 the mainshaft and speedo drive worm were changed to fit a woodruff key drive rather that the earlier friction drive
